While dealing with the tourism resources of Nakhchivan, the first thing to remember is the  nature and   historical monuments of this region. Concomitant  to every historical monument here is considered to be potential source for tourism, the nature of our land is distinguished with its appropriateness. There are tens of subtypes of ecotourism in Nakhchivan which has  rich ecological system. So that each of them may take part in the role of interesting object for tourism. One of such objects is hydrological historical monuments existing in Nakhchivan Autonomous  Republic.

Hydrological monuments  in ecotourism are mainly included in the system of nature monuments . In modern times the steps taken for the development of tourism  have  reached a level which has embraced “If there is not natural, create its identical” logical  ecotourism, as well.  For example; Nowadays  in many countries  the  usage of  artificial  islands  prevails in  tourism  or  it is not a new idea to establish “winter season complex” in hot countries for the tourists.  So we want to say that creation of existing conditions  does not always demand naturalness. The major thing is that the tourists  can take advantage of conditions  which have been given to their service and they are satisfied with them. From this stand-point,  the majority of  water supplies existing in Autonomous Republic  may be presented as hydrological monument inside the tourism sector. And what  are  the monuments of  this type and which roles does it have for the development of tourism  in Autonomous Republic?

Arpachai Water Reserve located in Sharur region is considered to be a big irrigational  installation in Azerbaijan. This water reservoir was given to service in 1977. 68 metre tall dam  built over the river which is considered to be the branch of the Aras river  enables 150 million cubic metre water to be  reserved  in water reservoir. These water resources are used in irrigation of planting fields in Sadarak, Sharur and Kangarli regions.

Hydrological monument for the position of its location ( the western part of the water reserve borders on  the slopes of mountain , however from the opposite  part  autoway stretches to the villages located along the Arpachai river) has very attractive landscape  and there are excellent opportunities for  the development of various types of tourism here. The most notable is that high mountain slopes stretching along the western part of the water reservoir, after the certain part of the day,  being an obstacle in front of the sunrays bestow  coolness  around  on hot summer days.

Ganligol, one of the important hydrological monuments of autonomous republic is situated in the area of  Kuku village of  Shahbuz region. Batabat lakes in this region are  situated on the basin of Nakchchivanchai river. These hydrological monuments are composed of three  water-reservoirs with the same name. Total water capacity is approximately  3 million cubic metres. Famous sailing island is situated here. Sailing island has been formed from sphagnum moss and plant cover on this. Depending on the direction of  wind island changes its place. One of the hydrological installations having  significant water resources in autonomous republic  is Haydar Aliyev Water Reservoir. Water reservoir located in the area of Shahbuz region, near Vaykhir village of  Babek region is in the altitude of 1059 metres above  sea level. After water reservoir with total capacity 100 million cubic metres being given for service in 2005, the needs of Shahbuz, Jolfa and Babek regions for irrigation have considerably been improved. Planting fields with 16 thousand 800 hectares are irrigated by means of  the reservoir. In recent years the attention has been increased to breeding the fishes of various species. Recently Uzunoba Water Reservoir located in the area of Babek region has become a touristic place in the frame of construction measures taken here. So that swimming complex has been established  for people’s relax  here , shop, café, canteen are in use. Around this,  water reservoir bestowing its gift to enrich the fish resources in autonomous republic, establishment  of new infrastructure  for people’s relax  has increased the potentials of this water-installation  considerably. It is  also possible to come across the hydrological monuments of the ancient land in  the territory of Ordubad region. Thus,  Goygol  situated in southern slope of  Zangazur  mountain range, in 3065 metre altitude above  sea-level is distinguished with its antiquity , as well as, with its geographical location. The size of Goygol named in “Kitabi Dada Gorgud”  is said to have been large before , however  the time passing  the area of the lake  diminished at the result of erosion of mountains surrounding  it. Goygol,  regarded as the highest mountain lake  of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic , has roughly 211 metre length, 103 metre width and 7 metre depth.  This lake of glacial origin is sometimes called “four seasons” lake, too.  As in summer months, specially in August  while there is snow in one part, it is possible to see blossoms in the another part and  petals of  blossoms  come off  on the other side. This beautiful sample of nature bestowed  to Nakhchivan by God has irreplaceable possibilities in the development of mountain and pedestrian walk tourism. Another fascinating hydrological monument in Ordubad land is the so-called waterfall located  near Pazmari village. Waterfall originates from the Ayichingili pass with 3707 metre altitude  located in Zangazur range of Ordubad region and it is a monument of nature located on the so-called the Pazmari river. In upper flows  the Ayichingilija,  the branch of  the Pazmari river, crossing through the canyon-like, narrow valleys with cascades, mainly sourcing from spring and snow waters, creates a waterfall with abundant water  near the place where the Vanand river flows in 2661 metre altitude above  sea-level. Pazmari waterfall distinguishes with flow potential, flow speed, energy resources. On the carbonated rocks the relative height of waterfall is nearly 30 metres. A lot of people from all regions of Nakhchivan come to see this miraculous nature monuments  situated  4-5 km away from Pazmari village. Pazmari waterfall has rich energy resource. Average annual water utilization  of the waterfall is 1,34  cubic metres. In early summer water utilization exceeds  25 cubic metres. Let’s note that  some tiny waterfalls also exist except the so-called  big waterfall situated over the Pazmarichai river. Concomitant to  those,  waterfalls create extremely beautiful landscape and  give information about tourism potentiality  of the area.

Generally there are a number of hydrological monuments  enabling the development of  ecotourism in autonomous republic. Yet we haven’t  referred here the mineral water deposits and kahrizes  which are considered our historical monuments. Each of which was enumerated are the objects  to play an important role for the development of  tourism or other directions. It is sufficient for us to use the possibilities  of  these objects  in the popularization of tourism and Nakhchivan in general.
